THE JOURNEY
Trappist beer is not just a premium craft drink. It is the continuation of a monastic tradition dating back to the 6th century, when Saint Benedict established that monasteries should be self-sufficient. Belgium is home to six of the world's only abbeys authorised to use the "Authentic Trappist Product" seal — and each one is a living document of medieval European history. This expedition travels through Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Belgium's great abbeys to understand the role of monasteries in preserving European civilisation.
