THE JOURNEY
Italy is not a country. It is a civilisation. And understanding it requires going beyond the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This expedition travels through Rome, Florence, Tuscany, San Gimignano and the Val d'Orcia seeking to understand the layers of history that make Italy unique — the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the wars between city-states and the late unification that created an extraordinarily diverse nation. Wine and gastronomy appear not as tourist attractions but as cultural expressions of a civilisation that learned to live well.
